Rural Hidalgo Co.Driveway · Rio Grande Valley
Ranch driveways, long-run caliche access roads, equipment yards, and washout repair across the RGV. Built with clean caliche, properly crowned, compacted to hold up.
The Problem
Caliche driveways look simple. Dump a load, spread it, drive on it. But the ones that last are crowned right, compacted in lifts, and have somewhere for water to go. The ones that fail were just dumped flat.
We start with a stable subgrade. If it's soft or wet, we cut down to firm ground. Then we build up in lifts of clean caliche — usually 4 to 6 inches at a time — and compact each lift before the next. We crown the driveway down the middle so water sheds to the sides instead of pooling.
For ranch driveways, we shape the shoulders and cut barrow ditches alongside so storm water has somewhere to go besides the driveway. Done right, you'll just need to top-dress it every few years.
Scope
Cut down to firm ground if needed. Remove soft spots and roots. A good driveway starts with a good base.
Bring in clean Valley caliche, spread in 4–6 inch lifts.
Crown down the middle so water sheds. Each lift compacted before the next goes down.
For longer ranch driveways, we cut barrow ditches and shape shoulders so storm water has a path.
Driveways that cross a ditch or low area get a properly sized culvert pipe set and backfilled correctly.
Storm washed out your driveway? We rebuild the affected section and re-crown so it doesn't happen again.

A properly built and crowned caliche driveway holds up 8–10+ years with light maintenance — top-dressing every 2–3 years to replace what washes off. A poorly built one needs major work in 1–2 years.
Yes — we size, set, and backfill culvert pipe where the driveway crosses a ditch or drainage. We handle the permits with the county if one's needed.
Yes. We rebuild the affected section, fix whatever caused the washout (usually a missing culvert or no crown), and re-crown the rest so it doesn't happen again.
Caliche is our main material in the Valley — it's local, cheap, and packs hard. We can spec road-base gravel if you want a different finish, but caliche is what most RGV driveways are built from.
